Event Reviews

After a 2 year hiatus, the iconic Latin American Festival, a day of entertainment and activities to celebrate everything Latino, was reborn in 2016 at the Bondi Pavilion and saw almost 3,000 people attend the event. Once again thanks to the support of Bondi Association of Arts and Music Inc and Bondi Beach Radio, the much loved and nationally unique Pavilion community arts and culture centre and surrounds will proudly host the Latin American Festival in 2017, which is bigger, brighter and better than ever!

There are over 106,000 Latin American Australians, with Sydney home to the largest amount of Latin American Australians, and the Waverley-Randwick area being the hub of that population, making the world-famous Bondi beach the natural home of this collaborative and inclusive cultural celebration. As is has done for the past 37 years, the Latin American Festival will showcase the rich and vibrant Latino culture and its place in Sydney’s colourful tapestry. The very best of Sydney’s Latin artists will provide non-stop entertainment with their dynamic mix of traditional and contemporary music, dance, entertainment, displays, workshops, art and craft stalls, delicious food delights, colourful costumes and all manner of activities for kids!

This year the festival boasts an even bigger line-up of world-class acts: with even more live music, folkloric dance troupes and instructors, and the biggest selection of Latin market stalls, and food and drink vendors in the festival’s history!  A very special guest is none other than Australia’s own Carlos Velazquez aka C Major, 2014 The Voice finalist and local Latin heartthrob who will not only be performing on the mainstage but will also be MCing all the mainstage acts! Festival-goers will also enjoy the highly-acclaimed dance and musical entertainment group Rhythm Brazil, as well as the legendary 12-piece afro-Cuban powerhouse that is El Orqueston lead by well respected local Bondi bassist Tina Harris.

Family is a large part of the Latin culture and similarly, the festival. From the hugely popular Under 18’s disco to face painting, dance classes and a special Under 18’s area inside the Pavilion, there is an absolute abundance of things for kids and young adults to enjoy throughout the day. In fact, with its vast array of events and activities, the Latin American Festival is truly a day to spend with the whole family – young and old! For the festival this year pass-outs will also be provided to ticket-holders up until 6pm so that they have the opportunity to lounge on the beach or go for a dip in the glorious Bondi water.

The Latin American Festival 2017 is undoubtedly one of the most exciting occasion on the calendar, with events and activities for young and old, for people of all cultures and from all corners of the world!
